Introducing the Harrington BB prototype. It may look familiar- however this microcar is 100% brand new. It has a steel body, a steel tubular chassis, and is a 4 wheel drive electric car. It uses the latest hub motors, (one motor in each wheel) Independent suspension (double wishbone front, Swing arm rear) Rack and pinion steering and twin pot calipers with hydraulic disk brakes all round. It is currently using lead acid batteries- which will soon be replaced with Lithium ion cells. It is a single speed car with a simple lever for forward and reverse. Currently it achieves 29.82 mph or 48kph and covers a range of 59 miles or 96kmh on a charge. A full recharge from empty takes 8 hours. It is our first fully working prototype- and has proven very reliable. We have clocked up around 800 miles in the last month- and have never suffered a break down. It is a real blast to drive in such a head turning car- with no noise, no emissions, no heat, no gears to change and with responsive steering and brakes. We are in the early stages of development. We are working closely with a motor manufacturer and a very well known Western EV (electric vehicle) design team on this project. Over the next 12 months will be developing an electric 3 wheeler, an electric 4 wheeler and a hybrid 3 wheeler. We aim to increase both speed and range substantially. We will also be making many modifications to all areas of the car- with the Goal to be offering both kits and fully completed hand built cars for sale by early next year. This page is just a taster of things to come; we have purposely avoided giving too much information regarding motor/ speed controller/ charger/ battery management types or indeed wattage, voltage and kWh figures. It looks familiar…. Isn’t it a bubble car? Well, no doubt many people who are reading this are already microcar fans. No doubt a lot of you already own an original 1950’s microcar. Being a microcar collector is an addiction. A healthy one! “my names Nathan and I am a microcar addict…” I am sure anybody who has the microcar bug does so for the following reasons. Microcars are minimalist engineering marvels. They are economical. They are easy to park and drive. They are beautiful, simple, and oozing with friendly character. No matter which country they are driven in- they are greeted with smiles and waves from adults and children alike. When parked they draw a bigger crowd than a Ferrari or Lamborghini. It is impossible to be in a bad mood when driving a bubble car. For many years, all the above reasons were a well kept secret amongst the microcar fraternity. It seems these days, there is a new found interest in microcars- perhaps due to a generation of ecologically aware citizens, perhaps due to an ever increasing gridlock on the roads- and lack of parking spaces, perhaps due to soaring fuel prices, whatever the reasons- judging by the demand and current values of traditional microcars- it appears microcars may well have a hey day once again. So... Is it a Bubble Car? I will leave that for you to decide! |

Why Electric? Electric cars (EV’s) are the future- the technology is available right now- albeit at a price. Hybrid cars are a sensible stepping stone, while the cost of component parts (high tech batteries) for EV’s are coming down. We are past the point where the affects of global warming can be reversed, but we owe it to future generations to actively do something to reduce the affects. There are very few technologies which were in use 110 years ago which are still the used technology at the forefront of their specific field. It is an incredible fact that the internal combustion engine is still the main source of power for 21st century transportation. Of course Economics and international Politics have a huge bearing on this. We all know the story- Black Gold. We watch the horrors of oil wars, we see and breathe the pollution, we see the images of melting icecaps, and we hear the gloomy forecasts of rising tides. Yet for the most part we still rely on Oil to go about our daily lives. Why? Habit? Convenience? Whatever, it is us individuals who need to stand up and push for change. |

Electric Cars Today and in the future We at Harrington Group have no aspirations to be the David to topple the Giant Automotive Goliaths. It would be
an impossible feat. The Big Guys have to change their technology for the health of this planet. It will happen-
although it will not happen overnight. Public pressure on governments and a change in consumer desires is our best bet.
